SNP and Variation Suite License Definitions
Single Named User License
This is the least expensive, but also the most restrictive. The software is installed on one computer for use by one named individual - not one individual at a time, but one, single named individual. It cannot be shared with coworkers.
Lab License
The software is installed on a single computer but can be used by an unlimited number of people in a kiosk scenario. It is best used in a lab-like environment where people share equipment, and where shared access isn't overly limiting. It doesn't work well where the users are in different locations, or if more than one person needs the software at a time. Note that this license prohibits installation in such a way that it can be accessed through a remote connection (that requires a Universal Server License).
Universal Server License
The software is installed on a server in such a way that anyone in the organization can access it. Performance characteristics generally limit the number of concurrent users to 2, perhaps 3 - depending on what the users are doing and the power of the server. If someone is doing copy number segmentation, then it will only be practical to have one user at a time as that is extremely compute intensive.
Concurrent User License
The software can be installed on as many computers in the organization as desired, for use by any individual in that organization. The license manager will only allow access to the software by as many users at a time as the number of concurrent licenses purchased. For example, one CUL = one person at a time; two CUL’s = two people at a time, etc.
